Baiyun Mountain History

Since ancient times, Baiyun Mountain was a famous scenic spot. It is interesting to know that the mountain has been a place for visitors since before the foundation of Guangzhou (then Panyu) in 214 BC. At that time, some known figures visited Baiyun Mountain during the Warring States period (5th to 3rd centuries BC).

The area was celebrated again for its beauty during the Jin Dynasty (266 to 420) and the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907). Different attractions in Baiyun, have been classified among “Eight Sights of Ram City” as loveliest spots in Guangzhou, since the Song Dynasty (960 to 1279). Unfortunately, only a few of these historical sites have survived the time which many of them were destroyed due to the city’s expansion.
